Hello Veterans and Friends,

Another month has gone by and it has been a busy one. I have had 36 interviews in my office this past month and sent 15 claims to the VA. I was asked to speak at several places in the month of May and appreciate the opportunity to speak about things that affect veterans or their families.

I would ask that all veterans that have an email address please email me at joe.ellis@montgomeryco.net. I also need any pictures that you can spare of your time in the military. I would like to receive a picture of you in uniform while you were serving. You can bring your photos to me at my office at 110 W. South Blvd. Crawfordsville or mail them to me. We are working on something special.

As I write this article I am thinking of my step dad who was with the 101st Airborne and jumped on D-Day and fought all the way to Bastogne, Belgium (the Battle of the Bulge). He was wounded there and captured and spent time as a POW. The ironic thing was that he never spoke of it. Many veterans continue today and do not speak about their experiences in the military. However I would ask ALL of you who have served at least write down some of your experiences for the younger generations to hear about or read about.

Here is a starting point, when did you serve, where did you take basic, what theater did you serve in and what unit did you serve in? Were you in the Army, Army Air Corps, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines? What cities in Europe or Islands did go through in the Pacific or was it all in the states? Who was your best friend? What job did you do? I am not speaking of only WW2 but Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

As always if you need any help finding out if you have benefits due, call me or email me. Will Rogers once said : "we can't all be hero's but we can stand at the curb and clap as they go by".

One word on Honor Flight, we are having a fund raiser at Dari-Licious at 1114 E. Main Street Crawfordsville. It will be on Thursday June 27 for their half price shake sale. Shakes will be sold all day for half price and we get $1 of each shake to go toward our Sept flight. We will also have some special activities from 6:30 to 8 p.m. including a 21 gun salute at 7:30 p.m. by the American Legion Honor Guard.
