When you stop and think about it, there are definitely several types of people who are pertinent in our lives, some for all of us while others we might by-pass. However, overall, at least teachers, ministers and doctors touch each and every individual's lives. My doctor, Tim Tanselle, in my book of Those Who Reach Us, is on top of the list. He's awesome and I'd like to tell you a little about him this week.

Dr. T., as some of us call him, grew-up in a nearby county, and thus Montgomery was blessed he chose here in which to settle. Both of Dr. Tanselle's degrees were received from IU, with his undergrad major in biological science. He received his Dr. of Medicine in 1978. While Chief Resident at Methodist Hospital, he worked in the ER at the old Culver Hospital here in Crawfordsville, where he also doctored for about three years before the new hospital was built. He had a bit to do with that, too, as he served on one of the building-oriented committees.

Active in several community organizations throughout his years here, Dr. Tanselle served as president of the Montgomery County Historical Society and attends the First United Methodist Church. Professionally, he is and has been very involved as a member of the American Academy of Family Medical Directors Association, Chief of Staff at St. Clair, Lane House Nursing Home, Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit and the list goes on! Currently, he is a physician with the Franciscan Physician Network and Medical Director of the Lane House Nursing Home.

With all this going on, it's hard to believe Dr. Tanselle has any fun time, but he and wife, Tina, an LPN, enjoy running, and being involved in the triathlon. Tina's major in college was anthropology and she is looking forward to going back to the Pike's Peak area where she did some work in that field. This will be a marathon and Tina swam, not too long ago, in the Ohio River for Louisville's Triathlon. She also coaches triathletes

Both of Dr. Tanselle's sons are CHS and IU graduates. Zach works at Baldwin and Lyons Insurance in Indianapolis and Rhett is a Management Analyst at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.

One of the reasons I like Dr. Tanselle is that he loves his family so much, not only Tina and the boys, but his parents, brother and other members, as well.

Hopefully, you can now see why Dr. Timothy Tanselle ranks high with me. I have no doubt that Dr. T. lives his philosophy (quote from Dr. Thomas Dooley), "A doctor's job is to cure sometimes, to relieve often, and to comfort always!"

Recently, one of my close friends at age 93 said to me, "Well, I sure hope Dr. Tanselle stays in practice long enough to take care of me and I plan to live well over 100!"

Truly, this man is not only one of my (and many other people's) favorite fellows but the guy I trust with my health and I so thank him for allowing me to feature a touch of his life in this week's Around the County!
