Dear MAC,

I've seen a lot of information and ads in The Paper of Montgomery County talking about the upcoming MUFFY kick-off event. Can you tell me some more about the event and what it is MUFFY does? I know I heard something about a golf outing . . . I'm always up for a round. How do I get involved?

Duffer,

Montgomery United Fund For You (MUFFY) will host its annual Kick-off Luncheon and Charity Golf Scramble on Wednesday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

This year's Golf Scramble, sponsored by Pace Dairy, marks the beginning of the community-wide, public phase of the 2013 campaign.

"Up until now, our more than 100 campaign volunteers have been working behind the scenes to prepare for this year's fundraising effort," said MUFFY Executive Director David Johnson. "The luncheon and charity scramble allows us the opportunity to not only recognize the work of those individuals, but to also celebrate those area businesses that committed to completing their company campaigns early to help us raise awareness and excitement for this year's campaign."

The Kick-off Luncheon will serve as the official start of the annual MUFFY campaign and will also honor the "Pacesetters," those businesses and organizations who have already completed their employee campaigns.

Funds raised through the MUFFY campaign directly support more than 20 programs with 16 partner agencies across Montgomery County. In 2012, more than 6,000 people directly benefited because of donations to the MUFFY campaign.

"Our goal for the community is to raise $475,000 to support a broad array of critical services across Montgomery County - everything from programs that help prevent or intervene in child abuse, to providing transportation to seniors, for disaster preparedness, or education for kids and adults, and so much more," said David Johnson. While the goal of raising $475,000 is aggressive for a community of Montgomery County's size, it still does not even meet all the needs in the community or requests that MUFFY receives each year. "We feel awareness is key," said Johnson "If people are aware of the need and are aware of the amazing programs that benefit from their support, then we will surpass our goal."

For registration information for the luncheon and golf scramble, or questions about how you or your place of business can get involved with the campaign, contact the MUFFY offices at 362-5484 or visit the MUFFY website at www.muffy.org.
