The children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren of James and Doris Davis (née Dickson) would like to wish Mr. and Mrs. Davis a very happy 65th wedding anniversary.
The couple first met at a skating party at the Crawfordsville Skating Rink, on a date set up by Jim’s sister Betty. After dating for some time, they became engaged, but while they were making wedding arrangements, Jim received his draft papers for the Korean War. They were married on Dec. 9, 1950 at Ladoga Methodist Church. Russell and Bonnie Stanton (married 67 years) stood up with them at their wedding and have remained close family friends to this day. Jim left for the service on Jan. 1, 1950, and served in Korea from May 1951 to late May 1952. Upon returning to the US, Doris and Jim took a delayed honeymoon to Niagara Falls.
The couple first lived in Jamestown, and then moved to Crawfordsville, where Doris worked as a Catalog and Credit Supervisor at JC Penney’s for twenty years and at Tri-County Bank for twelve. Jim worked at Allison’s in Indianapolis on non-destructive test and instrument repair, retiring with 41 years of service.
The couple enjoys playing cards, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. They are also very active in New Market Christian Church. When asked about the secret to their long and loving marriage, they say “We’ve had some hard times and some good times, but we went through all of it together and the Lord looked over us. The Lord has given us a lot.”
Jim and Doris are wonderful parents to four children: James Davis (Crawfordsville, IN), Timothy Davis (El Paso, IL), Sharon Ferguson (Crawfordsville, IN), and Judith Cunningham (Traverse City, MI). They are also loving and proud grandparents for their 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
