Club News: Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association

The Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association met Dec. 12, 2016, at the Crawfordsville Public Library at noon. The lunch was served by Allen’s Catering.
President Karen Patton recognized the December birthdays. She opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Letty Calder gave the Invocation.
Recording Secretary Nancy Bowes read the minutes from the November meeting. Lynn Robison read the Treasurer’s report.
Committee reports were given as follows:
Community Service- Marge Hughes reminded each member to turn in their volunteer hours to her or mail them to her within the next week. Marge read a letter from Cyndi Cooper requesting volunteers to help in her Life skills classroom at Hose Elementary. Kathy Tobias has requested volunteers to help with the Adult Reading Program.
Membership- Marilyn Spear reported there are now 156 paid members. Attendance at monthly meetings has improved. The consensus was that members are coming to listen to interesting and informative programs.
Foundation – President Karen reported that The Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation is taking applications for the “Hands-Up Program” and also scholarship applications for Children or relatives of Retired Teachers.
Legislature – Bill Combs announced that the Legislative Breakfast will be held December 17th, 2016 at 8:00 am. at Dutchion Hall at Wabash College. This Breakfast is sponsored by our local Chamber of Commerce. Call the Chamber to make your reservation. A Legislative Breakfast in Indianapolis will be held April 4, 2017 at 9:00 am. More information will be provided at the February meeting.
Member Concerns – Mary Lefebvre reported that three Thinking of You cards were sent, two Sympathy cards, and one Anniversary card. The Christmas cards were passed around during the meeting so that all present can sign the cards for the retired teachers that are unable to attend the meeting.
New Business - Nikki Smith, Linda Sabol, and Debbie Howard were thanked for the table decorations.
Program - The Crescendos put everyone in the Christmas Spirit with their beautiful Christmas Medleys.
Door prizes were given and the meeting was adjourned. There will be no meeting in January. The next meeting will be Feb. 12, 2017 at the Crawfordsville Public Library at noon. Letty Calder and Phyllis Wininger will be the hostesses. The next program for the February meeting - Retired Teacher, Steve Frees will be telling Funny Teacher Stories.
