Mother Nature and Jack Frost teamed up to cause multiple problems for drivers Thursday.

There were 25 accidents reported in the county between 8 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday; many were slide offs due to icy roads.

Nine of those accidents were on I-74. At 10:45 p.m., Thursday, the state police contacted the Indiana Department of Transportation, asking for an engineer to go to the scene and determine if the overpass at the 40 mile marker was safe for traffic, according to the police blotter.

One of the crashes Thursday involved an Indiana State Police car on I-74 at the 41 mile marker just before 2 p.m.

Trooper Nathaniel L. Hampton, 26, of Crawfordsville had just returned to his police car when it was hit by a semi driven by Richard C. Jones, 31, of Columbia, Mo.

No one was injured but the right lane of I-74 was shut down for about an hour after the wreck.
