More students will be able to stay in Crawfordsville now that Ivy Tech is open.
The Crawfordsville Ivy Tech campus is officially open.

Thursday afternoon a ribbon cutting and open house was held at the new campus, marking the grand opening of the new facility.

Ivy Tech Site Director Geoff Knowles said that Thursday was the culmination of work for a lot of people.

"It's been a great journey to get here," he said. "Our students are excited to start the new semester here."

Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton said that it was the hard work of two city administrations to see the new campus open.

"We are now more appealing that we ever have been," Barton said, refering to Ivy Tech being an economic development tool. "We believe in our future."

Former Mayor Charlie Coons said that it was when he was interim mayor that the process started.

"I'm proud that this got done," Coons said.

County Commissioner Phil Bane said the new campus will bring a new talent level to the workforce.

"This building is only a tool, but it is an important tool," Bane.
