Austin Mincey, one of the teenage riders in the amateur motocross regional at Crawfordsville last weekend died Tuesday at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mincey was from Bethelridge, Ky.
A motocross web page indicates he had been competing in motocross events since 2008.
On a Facebook page created to ask people to pray for Mincey, Mason Stout wrote, "I firstly want to thank all the supporters of this page; so many prayers, warm thoughts, and contributions have came out of this. It is so amazing and such a blessing to see so many people praying and coming together. The Lord has decided he needed Austin more in heaven then he needed him here with us, he has a reason for taking Austin to paradise. ... Thank you all so much for everything you have done and continue to keep the entire Mincey family in your prayers as the next few days, weeks, and months will be very difficult for them. May god bless you all as you have blessed us!"
Last week, Tim Cotter of MX Sports spoke at the Crawfordsville Kiwanis Club about the dangers of motocross racing.
He said everything possible is done to keep the sport safe but injuries do happen.
"My job is to make the track as safe as possible and we have done that," he said.
