Marjorie Jean Houston, 88, Greencastle passed away at her residence on Tuesday morning Feb. 14, 2017.
She was born Feb. 10, 1929 at Ladoga to James Franklin and Lena Barr Carmichael.
Mrs. Houston graduated from Ladoga High School in 1946 and then graduated from the Marion County General Hospital School of Nursing. She then received her BA in psychology from St. Leo College in Florida. She was passionate about nursing, working for five decades in hospitals in Indiana, Georgia, California and Florida. She was a lifetime member of the Ladoga Christian Church, Wishard Hospital Alumni Association and a proud member of the NRA. After raising her children in Ladoga, she pursued her lifetime passion for travel, visiting 46 states and 10 countries.
Survivors include four children, Paul N. (Julie) Houston of Brazil, Michael James Houston of Greencastle, Stacey Lynn (Dana) Houston of Indianapolis and Eric Shawn (Gay) of Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Betty Carmichael of Ladoga; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Carmichael; a sister, Nellie Isbell; an infant brother, James Keith and an infant sister, Opal Ruth.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Ladoga Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Powell officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home in Ladoga prior to service.
