Robert E. Dickey, 84, New Market passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Ben Hur Health.
Born March 28, 1933 in Yountsville, he was the son of Paul S. Dickey and Mamie Houston Dickey.
He was a 1951 graduate of Darlington High School. Mr. Dickey served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was stationed in Sasebo, Japan as part of the Korean Conflict from ’52 to ’54 and then was in San Diego. He married Barbara Robbins on June 27, 1958 in Darlington. She survives. He worked at R. R. Donnelley, starting in 1951 and retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion, where he was Past Commander and the 40 & 8, where he was Past Chef De Gare.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dickey of Crawfordsville; a son, Steve (Maggie) Dickey of Whiteland; two daughters, Sandra (Sam) Simmons of Waynetown and Sharon (JR) Campbell of Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Andrea, James, Madison and Patrick; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Tricia; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; and two brothers, Floyd and Paul Rhea Dickey.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Burkhart Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects two hours prior to service. Burial with military rites will follow at Indiana Creek Hill Cemetery.
