Sing for Christmas
Thursday, August 28, 2014 2:20 PM
It is that time of year again when I have the great pleasure of announcing an invitation to join choir members in our surrounding area, for the purpose of organizing the 13th annual Community Christmas Choir. This year's selected Christmas musical is "My Heart Longs for Christmas," which was created by Tony Wood, Allie LaPointe and Nick Robertson and arranged and orchestrated by David T. Clydesdale. This meeting will occur on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Browns Valley Christian Church.
This unique and extraordinary opportunity to praise the birth of our Savior through song and fellowship with others who share the same appreciation and passion for music will undeniably be the most important choice you make this year.
The Community Christmas Choir is a non-affiliated community-based group of choir members living in Putnam, Montgomery and Parke counties. This invitation is not intended in any way to replace or even detract from any Christmas performance your church may be planning. This community group was created to provide vocalists and listeners an additional opportunity to celebrate during this joyous time of year. I am praying that this annually anticipated event will be met with the enthusiasm of previous years but with even greater participation. Last year we had nearly 100 members in the choir and over 1,500 people in attendance.
This year, the Christmas musical will be performed at the Russellville Community Center on Dec. 5, 6 and 7. Even if you choose not to participate, please plan to attend the dinner and concert. Information about the performance and pre-concert meals will be provided in November.
"My Heart Longs for Christmas" will feature narration, drama, solos, duets, a children's choir and the adult community choir. The music is arranged SATB and is moderately easy in difficulty. A songbook for purchase ($10) and a free practice CD will be available to all those who join this year. At the organizational meeting we will discuss the rehearsal and performance schedule and sight-read the music.
This invitation is open to anyone who desires to be part of a fun-filled and soul-stirring opportunity. You will not be asked to audition for the choir, but only to possess the courage to turn ordinary voices into extraordinary worship. Make Jesus part of your celebration this Christmas season. You won't want to miss it!
