DARLINGTON – North Montgomery’s ladies golf team is starting to see more consistency from round to round. That consistency was on display Thursday with a dominant win over Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Danville, 177-226 in a match played at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.

The Chargers were paced by their upperclassmen in seniors Kennedy Bonwell and Abbey Woodard and junior Megan Douglas. As a matter of fact, the three were only separated by two strokes. Bonwell took medalist honors with her round of 40. Douglas finished one stroke back by carding a 41, and Woodard had a solid round finishing with a 42.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls,” said head coach Cooper Tartar. “They played well and are improving every day. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this team.”

Taylor Miller and Scout Groves each entered the clubhouse with a 54. Jaycee Walden completed her round with a 59.

North Montgomery’s back in action at Rocky Ridge on Monday as they’ll host the Greencastle Tiger Cubs. Tuesday, they’ll travel to North Putnam in a match that was rescheduled.

Danville got the best of Crawfordsville Thursday on the golf course. The final was 219-234 in favor of the Warriors, but Athenian senior Regina Go was the medalist in her final regular season meet. She shot a 46.

"We struggled as a team tonight, but Regina played a great round to finish her high school career. She still has one meet to go and still has a goal of making it out of the sectional," coach Roger Tribbett said. "She's on track right now and I'm very pleased with the way she's playing."

Olivia Grady and Shania Harrison each shot a 62 Thursday. Katelyn Dixon and Maggie Greer shot 68s.

Crawfordsville will be the host for the girls golf sectional at the Municipal Course on Saturday.

  • Chargers 2nd at SAC

Temperatures were lower than they have been and scores were higher.

That was the story of the Sagamore Athletic Conference girls' golf meet on Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

After a long day of battling the conditions and the course, Lebanon went home as the winner thanks to a low round of 354. North Montgomery was second at 411. Southmont took fourth with a team score of 430 and Crawfordsville rounded out the county teams with a 465 for sixth place.

"We'll take second for sure. We knew Lebanon was going to be tough to beat. Megan (Douglas) played really well. She had 10 5s in a row," Charger mentor Mark Shadiow said. "We were hoping our scores would be a little lower than that. We were hoping we would be in the 300s. Before the sectional we need to eliminate our huge numbers. Seems like every girl has two or three just really big numbers. We have to minimize the damage."

DARLINGTON-North Montgomery got a warm up for the conference meet with a triangle affair Thursday night. The Chargers beat Western Boone (199) and Danville (222) with their score of 197.

Abbey Woodard was the medalist with a 43. Teammate Kennedy Bonwell was right behind her with a 49 and Megan Douglas stayed low with a 49.

"We didn't bring our best stuff tonight. But it was good experience for the girls to play in the cold since we are supposed to have similar temperatures for conference on Saturday," head coach Mark Shadiow said. "I think the girls played better than their scores indicated tonight. We struggled a bit on the greens but seemed to be hitting the ball pretty well overall."

North Montgomery is now 7-5 on the year and is 4-1 against Sagamore Athletic Conference opponents.
