County represented very well

Well Montgomery County was well represented around the state this past weekend. The Lady Mounties ended their 14-10 season in the regional at Lapel on Saturday. It has been lots of fun watching and taking photos of the three seniors Cali Wetli, Jessi Shelton and Alexa McKinsey. I will definitely miss snapping their photos.
Lori Poteet is The Paper's ace sports photographer. You probably have seen her out at one of the local high schools. She usually has a camera in her hand. Lori's column, From Behind The Lens, will appear each Tuesday in The Paper. You can also follow her on Twitter @LoriPoteetPhoto.
I will get a chance to get some more photos of Shelton in track season. I think you will see her name in the track headlines this spring season as she will finish out her high school sports career strong.
Speaking of representing Montgomery County well, a huge shout out to South's Chance Brown for qualifying for state in wrestling and to North Montgomery's Nick Borta for placing sixth in the state. I think coach Swain explained Borta the best with his quote of "He is the best wrestler to ever come through North Montgomery High School and has done amazing things for the program."
I would have to agree. He has broken many records that may always have his name attached to them. Borta placed seventh in state as a junior and sixth in the state as a senior. He finishes his career as the only Charger to ever place in the state wrestling finals. Plus holds the record for most wins and most pins for North. Yep I think Borta will be remembered for a long time as one awesome wrestler!
Then there was the boys' basketball sectional draw. The pairings show has forever been a big deal in Indiana. Teams have parties to watch the draw and see who they will play in the tourney. Records no longer matter and it's like a whole new season of hope because every team wants to be able to cut the nets down and celebrate a championship.
The county schools all were kind of lucky with the draw. All three county schools drew first round byes, giving coaches a little more time to prepare and scout.
North Montgomery will get things kicked off playing Western Boone March 9 at 6 p.m. These two teams are evenly matched. North has been playing better ball lately so I give the Chargers the advantage in this match up. Crawfordsville will take on the winner of Lebanon and Frankfort. My guess they will play Frankfort. The Hot Dogs are the host of the tournament and the rims are really tight at Case Arena, giving them the home court advantage. However, I pick Crawfordsville to then win against the Hot Dogs giving us a big North versus Crawfordsville match up for the final game. Sorry I'm going to be politically correct here and not tell my prediction of who wins the championship.
Southmont will be at Fountain Central and they got a great draw. Win one game and they are in the finals. South has struggled throughout the season, but they are back to full strength now with Devon Burton and Mitch Dehne back from injuries. South will play either South Vermillion or Clinton Central in the semifinals thanks to their bye. Despite their overall record I really think as a healthy team South could make the finals. Once they are in the finals it may be close but I give the edge to the Mounties, they have something to prove and coach Jon Sparks will have them ready to play.
So Yes I am predicting two teams winning sectional titles this year. Can't wait to see how it all plays out!
