The Sagamore Athletic Conference release its all-conference teams for girls' basketball on Thursday and Crawfordsville's Lacey Garrett was named a first-teamer.

Garrett was the only Montgomery County athlete on the first or second team. This year, the Athenian senior averaged 18.7 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game, 4.6 steals per game and became only the fourth girl in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

The Lebanon girls' basketball team made it to the regional championship game in the IHSAA Class 3A State Tournament after a close win of 68-60 over Northview earlier that evening. The score was close at the end of each quarter, but unfortunately Lebanon was defeated by the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard Trojans who had just defeated Danville 58-62 to advance themselves to the regional championshop game, as well.

LEBANON - The Crawfordsville Athenians girls' basketball team knew going into Sectional 25 action that Lebanon would be a tough opponent. The Class 3A No. 5 Lady Tigers did not disappoint, defeating the Lady Athenians 71-35, moving on to the sectional finals Saturday evening at Lebanon.

The first quarter was all Lebanon (21-3, 7-0 Sagamore Athletic Conference). The Lady Tigers got out to a hot start, and made some early buckets led by a pair of second year players in Brooke Montgomery and Kassidi Cadle. Lebanon raced out to a 20-5 lead after the first period of action.

  • Spolyar makes history as Tigers roll

LEBANON - At halftime Friday night against Southmont, the Lebanon Lady Tigers honored Jami Sloan, one of the program's all-time great players for being named to the Silver Anniversary Team.

But, it was a current Tiger player that stole the show.

Junior Kristen Spolyar matched her career-high with 46 points and set Lebanon's career-scoring record with 1,692 points. The previous mark of 1,690 was held by Maggie Boyer. The Tigers won the game 95-26. Spolyar scored 26 points in the first half. Spolyar wasn't just dominate scoring. She had a game-high 14 rebounds, nine steals, six blocks and four assists.

LEBANON - Get in, get out, move on. That's the approach the Southmont girls' basketball team will want to take Friday night when it makes the bi-annual trip to Lebanon for a Sagamore Athletic Conference clash. The Class 2A Mounties (4-15, 1-4 SAC) know that they will be heavy underdogs against the Class 3A No. 5 Tigers (18-2, 6-0 SAC).

"Not having them in the sectional, we're going to go play and move on," Southmont head coach Susan McVay said. "We've got to do the best we can to come out and put together a game. We know what they're going to do."

LINDEN - The North Montgomery girls' basketball team had the opportunity to see one of the state's best Class 3A schools on Friday night. The Chargers played host to Sagamore Athletic Conference rival and Class 3A No. 5 Lebanon. The Tigers won the game 76-26.

Lebanon (16-2) has not lost to a school of equal or smaller size all year. Their only blemishes belong to Class 4A No. 4 Homestead and Class 4A No. 5 Noblesville.

It was clear why eyes of the state are on the Boone County power. They ran out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Chargers did not score in the first three minutes of any quarter.

Kristen Spolyar, a junior and a Butler recruit, powered the offense with layup after layup on her way to 34 points. The Chargers got nine points from Cheyenne Warren and eight from Becca Adams.
