    Frankfort and Lebanon swim teams competed today to see who will move on to the sectional finals Saturday.

    Zionsville ended the IHSAA Girls 2015 Sectional for Swimming and Diving on top with 538 points. They won by 225 points over second place McCutcheon. Lebanon ended the Sectional in 7th place with 151 points, placing in four events. Frankfort placed 8th in the meet scoring 131 points while placing in five events.

    The Western Boone swim team celebrated Senior Night for their senior swimmers tonight against Lebanon. The Stars boys' team won 113-66, and the girls lost 101-84.

    The Southmont swim team had a competitive three-way meet Thursday with South Vermillion and Owen Valley. The Southmont boys won with a score of 139, ahead of South Vermillion's 122 and Owen Valley's 25.

    The South Vermillion girls won with 156 points to Southmont's 94 and Owen Valley's 46.

    For the Southmont girls, Maddi Wickholm won the 200 free and the 100 breaststroke. Nikki Wickholm won the 100 fly.

    On the boys' side, the relay team of Steven Cloncs, Keifer Lowe, Owen Zimmerman and Wyatt Waddell placed 1st in the 200 Medley Relay. Zimmerman placed 1st in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Fly. Waddell placed 1st in the 500 Free. Cloncs placed 1st in the 100 Backstroke. Lowe placed 1st in the 50 Free and the 100 Breaststroke.

    The Mounties swim again Saturday at the Crawfordsville Invitational. Full results can be found online at www.thepaper24-7.com



    Chargers, Tigers split

    The North Montgomery swimming teams split with Lebanon Thursday night. The Lebanon girls won 123-62 while the Charger boys won 109-74.

    Winners for the North Montgomery girls include Lauren Odel, Lillia Mitchell, Megan Merica, Courtney Clark, Kaitlin Townsend and Ashlynn Bennett.

    Winners for the North Montgomery boys were Luke Spencer, Javan Barton, Nick Maxwell, Austin Whitlock, Gus Maxwell and Jeffrey Miller.

    The Chargers will swim again Saturday at the Crawfordsville Invitational. Individual results were not submitted.

    Tonight for a Sagamore Conference match-up the Tri-West and Lebanon swim teams battled it out in the swimming pool and both teams walked away with a victory.

  • Athenians capture boys' Sagamore swim and dive crown

    Thanks to their depth and execution, the Crawfordsville boys are the Sagamore Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving champions. They edged North Montgomery 391-299 Saturday at Crawfordsville to take first place. Western Boone was a third with 279 points. Southmont clocked in at seventh, with 164 points. On the girls' side, Lebanon was the class of the field. Their 356 points edged Danville's 351.5 and was well ahead of third-place North Montgomery's 270.5. Crawfordsville was seventh (225) and Southmont eighth (131).

  • Finals set for Sagamore Meet

    The preliminary rounds of the Sagamore Athletic Conference swimming and diving meet took place Thursday at Crawfordsville High School. All three Montgomery County schools put swimmers in the finals, which take place Saturday at Crawfordsville.

    Crawfordsville earned a total of 23 swims in the finals. Thomas Fairfield earned two of those swims and will be seeded first in the 100 yard breaststroke. He will also swim in the 50 yard freestyle. Calvin Chaney will join Fairfield in the 100 breaststroke. Juan Huesca also earned two swims, the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyles. Sam Malott and John Servies will join Huesca in the 200 free. Malott will also swim in the finals of the 500 yard freestyle, joined by Dalton Humphrey. Davis Thompson and Reeve Hawkins will join Huesca in the 100 free. Jacob Pruett and Conner Franke will swim in the 200 yard IM. Pruett will also swim the 100 yard butterfly. Franke, along with Westin Evans, will swim in the 100 yard backstroke finals.

    Crawfordsville and Lebanon split a dual meet in the pool Tuesday. Lebanon won the girls meet 141-40 and Crawfordsville won the boys meet 135-50.

    Juan Huesca was a double winner for the boys. He won the 100-yard freestyle (54.45) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.50). Sam Mallott added a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.91). Thomas Fairfield touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.33), as did Conner Franke in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.66).

    The Athenians also won the 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.

    Lebanon beat Southmont in boys swimming action on Saturday, 92-87. The Lady Tigers also won 139-27.

    The Southmont boys kept it close, but were outgunned in the last relay.
