South Leaps into September with win

NEW MARKET-Southmont played host to the Leap Into September cross country meet on Tuesday and Montgomery County had a good showing. The Southmont boys' team won the event with 57 team points, just ahead of Crawfordsville, which had 60. Benton Central won the girls' portion. Southmont and Crawfordsville both had just two runners.

County boys took four of the top five spots in the face. Brooks Long was second in 18:08 for Southmont. Davis Thompson (18:12), Manuel Arroyo (18:42) and Nathan Pryor (18:52) took third through fifth for the Athenians. Ross Lippencott (19:24) and Josh Christian (19:59) were seventh and 10th for Southmont. Alec Brissey gave the Mounties 12th in 20:23.
Despite just two runners each, the girls were strong. Crawfordsville's Maddie Hurt was second in 23:20 while Kelsey Dugger took fourth for the Mounties in 24:29.
Crawfordsville goes to a five-way meet at Covington Thursday. Southmont will run in the Charger Classic Monday.
