LIZTON —North Montgomery scored almost as quickly as they stepped off the bus, Tuesday, but needed overtime to eliminate Greencastle from tournament play, 2-1, in girls’ soccer Sec-tional 44 second round action.
Katie Lewis jammed a centering pass from Kinsey Humphrey past her defender and Tiger Cubs’ goalie Claire Gillen just 40 seconds into contest, then the two switched roles in the first overtime session to settle the win.
North Montgomery advances to play Western Boone in the sectional semi-final match.
For Chargers head coach, Julie Hodges, the outcome rested on the shoulders of the defense.

    Tuesday, September 15, 2015 11:10 PM

Kinsey Humphreys scored one of the three goals for North in their first win of the season. Lillia Mitchell and Kathryn Sabens knocked in the other two for a shutout on home territory.

The game was a one-goal game at half time but North sprinted ahead.

“This was a total team win,” Coach Julie Hodges said. “For the first time, we finally clicked everywhere on the field together.”

Becca Adams had nine saves and the defenders were like brick walls.

“Defense won this game for us, keeping their shape and marks like we have been practicing,” Hodges said.

The girls are now 1-8 and will be in action again on Thursday for a conference match against Frankfort.

GREENCASTLE-For the first 20 minutes it was pretty even. And then the No. 16 Crawfordsville girls' soccer team pulled away. They scored four goals in the last 22 minutes of the first half on their way to a 7-0 win over North Montgomery to open sectional 44 at Greencastle.

Hannah Whicker opened the scoring at the 18-minute mark and would finish the night with four goals. Reilly Dunham scored twice and Bethany Young added a goal late in the game.

"I thought offensively we were moving the ball better. Getting it side to side and getting a lot of chances," Crawfordsville head coach Brent Bokhart said. "Defensively I think organization was the biggest thing. We had Maddie Hudson in at stopper and she played a great game. So organization was the key."

The North Montgomery girls soccer team lost 8-0 against Danville Monday. The game was resumed from Aug. 25 when lightning forced postponement less than a minute in. The Warriors already led 1-0 upon resumption and they picked up where they left off. Stephanie Burdsall scored four more goals before halftime to make it 5-0 and the Warriors never slowed down. The Chargers are 3-12 and finish the regular season Wednesday at Lebanon.

North Montgomery opened with a 6-0 loss to Western Boone.

"We came out a little slow in the first game and didn't play our game at all," Charger head coach Julie Hodges said.

North and South then met in the consolation game where the Mounties won 3-0. Christa Edwards scored twice and Emily White added the other. White was assisted by Kennady Black.

LINDEN-The 100-career goal mark is in sight.

Hannah Whicker increased her career tally to 98 goals with four Thursday at Crawfordsville beat North Montgomery 7-1 to win the girls' soccer county title for the second straight year.

No. 16 Crawfordsville jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals by Whicker (2) and Reilly Dunham in the first half.

"We played 30 minutes of soccer in the first half. That's something we talked about at halftime," Crawfordsville head coach Brent Bokhart said. "We did a lot of good things. We crashed the goal - something we've been preaching all year. The defense played well and kept their organization throughout."

North Montgomery stole some momentum before the half with 10 strong minutes of play and a goal from Caroline McClaskey.

"We thought we had some momentum there," North Montgomery head coach Julie Hodges said. "Even after about five minutes of the second half. Then they got a couple quick goals and it was almost a chasing game."
