FRANKFORT – North Montgomery (7-12, 0-6 SAC) hoped to keep their winning streak going Friday night when they took on the Hot Dogs from Frankfort (5-14, 2-4 SAC). Fresh off their win over Riverton Parke, the Chargers faced off against a hot Frankfort team that had won three of their last five. In a physical game, the Hot Dogs took down the Chargers 64-58.
“I’m proud of the boys for their aggressiveness tonight,” said Charger head coach Eric Danforth. “The kids were able to get to get their hands on a lot of rebounds despite Frankfort’s size.”
North Montgomery struggled on the offensive end during most of the first half. Frankfort’s big men clogged up the lane, forcing the Chargers to get a majority of their shots from outside the 3-point line.
“The outside shot was open for a lot of the game,” said Danforth. “We took what they gave us but it wasn’t enough.”
Mitch Merica shot 3-9 from the 3-point line, scoring 14 points for the Chargers.
“We knew coming in that Mitch was going to score a lot tonight, but he surprised us with his defense tonight. He was able to slow down their big men and give us a chance,” said Danforth.
Caleb Randolph took over the show after halftime. The senior would score 15 of his 21 points in the half, including 9-10 from the charity strike.
“Caleb was huge for us tonight,” said Danforth. “He carried us offensively and was a difference maker on the defensive end of the floor as well.”
The leading scorer for the Chargers was Randolph with 21 while Mitch Merica and Justin Cleary both added 14 of their own. Merica also led the team in rebounds with seven.
North Montgomery’s next game is against Tri-West next Friday at home.
