The Sagamore Athletic Conference release its all-conference teams for girls' basketball on Thursday and Crawfordsville's Lacey Garrett was named a first-teamer.

Garrett was the only Montgomery County athlete on the first or second team. This year, the Athenian senior averaged 18.7 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game, 4.6 steals per game and became only the fourth girl in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

LEBANON - North Montgomery's game plan Friday evening was to limit turnovers and stop Western Boone's scoring runs. The game couldn't have started any worse for the Chargers as they committed 10 first quarter turnovers, and the Stars opened up a 12-0 advantage to start the game. A deficit they could never overcome, losing to Western Boone 54-33.

"Throughout the year, we've had a hard time coming back against big runs like that," said Charger coach Ryan Nuppnau. "We didn't come out with the energy and excitement that we had hoped we would with it being tourney time."

DOVER - The Crawfordsville girls basketball team took a 3-0 lead on the opening possession of the game Friday night against Western Boone.

After that, it was all Lady Stars. Western Boone went on an 18-0 run over the next 13:30 and never trailed again in a 54-42 victory.

Erika Brooks hit a 3-pointer to give the Athenians the first points of the game.

But after that, Crawfordsville missed their next 25 shots from the field.

Rachel Ramey scored nine points in the 18-0 run that followed as the Stars took an 18-3 lead.

"It is tough to recover from an 18-3 start," Crawfordsville head coach Tony Thomas said. "We shot the ball really well on Tuesday night against Hamilton Heights. Sometimes when you make as many 3s as we did you think you can do it every night. We just refused to look inside and only had one inside basket all half. Just a tough game."

The Stars led by 13 at the half.

The Athenians played better in the third quarter, scoring the first five points in the quarter and at one point getting within five at 32-27 with 2:08 left in the half.

But Western Boone scored the last four points of the third quarter and five of the first seven in the fourth quarter to re-establish their double-digit lead.

Crawfordsville got no closer than 11 in the fourth quarter.

Lacey Garrett led Crawfordsville with 20 points, six steals and four assists. Brooks added nine.

DOVER - Seven points separated the Crawfordsville and Western Boone girls' basketball teams in the championship of the Sugar Creek Classic, sponsored by The Paper of Montgomery County, Franciscan Physician Network and Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Crawfordsville.

That matchup was on Nov. 22 and it was the fourth game of the season for the Stars and fifth for the Athenians. It went the way of WeBo, 57-50.

Crawfordsville can get redemption Friday night when they travel down 32 to take on the Stars (12-10, 3-3 SAC).

"WeBo is a tough matchup for us because of their overall strength," Crawfordsville head coach Tony Thomas said. "They out-rebounded us in the Sugar Creek Classic and got too many second-chance points."
