The bottom half of the girls' soccer sectional 44 bracket has been a wild one. There was more of the same Thursday as Western Boone scored two unanswered goals to get past Southmont, 2-1.

The Mounties got on the board first with an unassisted goal by Macy Zachary 14 minutes into the first half.

Western Boone evened it up with 18:56 remaining on a goal from Meg Kinslow. They took the lead with seven and a half left in the first half when Madison Wright found Audrey Dugan for a score.

It wasn't the performance they wanted. But the final still went in their favor.

That was the story for the No. 16 Crawfordsville girls' soccer team in a 3-0 win over Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Western Boone Wednesday.

"I thought Western Boone dominated the game, especially first half possession," Crawfordsville head coach Brent Bokhart said. "We put our chances away, but those chances were few and far between."

Hannah Whicker added to her record total for career goals with two in the first half. She was assisted by Mia Katzenberger and Reilly Dunham.

NEW MARKET-The Southmont girls' soccer team dug itself a hole Thursday night and almost got out of it. Ultimately, they fell 3-2 to their Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Western Boone.

Western Boone jumped to a 3-0 lead before halftime, but Rachel Welliever scored two second-half goals to get the Mounties back in it. A third goal was disallowed because the sideline official ruled that the ball was out of bounds prior to a cross that Macy Zachary capitalized on. One of Welliever's goals came on a penalty kick.

"The first half we came out and made some defensive errors that led to their goals," Southmont coach Alfredo Villalpando said. "We weren't playing very well and had a hard time transitioning from defense to offense. We made some defensive substitutions at halftime and the second half was all ours."
