Congressman worked to fix lake issues
I learned about the trouble at Lake Freeman virtually as soon as Hoosiers in my home state did: The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), acting under the authority of the Endangered Species Act, had ordered Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), operator of Oakdale Dam, to increase flow of the Tippecanoe River. Endangered mussels downstream needed water in drought-like conditions.

What we should do about ISIS
Last week, the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff described the threat arising from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in apocalyptic terms - as well they should. The unspeakable depravities committed by ISIS are enough to evoke images of death's pale horse.

However, neither in that briefing where the two national defense officials explained the dimensions of the threat, nor elsewhere in White House action have we seen an adequate response consistent with the growing danger. We must marshal all of our resources to confront this danger and act strongly, immediately and comprehensively.

Serving Our Veterans - Veterans Administration Reforms
Like you, I was outraged at the recent Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) news stories that revealed subpar care for our veterans. That is why my colleagues and I lead passage of a bipartisan and bicameral reform bill that will improve access to care for veterans.

The legislation included many of the reforms included in H.R. 4810, the Veterans Access to Care Act, which passed the House with my support on June 10.
