Economic health vital to community
The League of Women Voters has been studying and supporting Economic Health of Montgomery County for many years. The LWV position notes there are many factors that contribute to economic health including the perception of livability which includes strong business and industry and an available workforce, education and training, recreation and tourism, social and cultural opportunities, health care and support services, housing, transportation and mobility.

Primary election is right around the corner
The Primary Election May 6 will be conducted in twenty-seven precincts in Montgomery County with the assistance of at least 135 poll workers.

League encourages voter registration
The May 6, primary election is just six weeks away. Key primary elections will be held for national, state and county offices. The candidates elected will be on the November ballot. Those elected in November will make decisions that affect your job, your health care, your energy costs, your security and the legacy you leave to future Americans.

All eligible citizens are urged to be a part of this important election by voting on May 6. But, you only can vote if you are registered, and the registration deadline is April 7.

State of the city . . . part two
This is Part II reporting on Mayor Todd D. Barton's "State of the City" address to the March Lunch with the League.

Mayor Barton stated that citizens expect better lines of communication with local government than ever before. Later in March, the Mayor will be hosting his 27th community forum event which provide residents with the opportunity to speak directly with the Mayor about their concerns, issues and ideas for making Crawfordsville even better. The new website is up, and social media presence reaches thousands of people every day.

The United States system of government is based on the premise that government is a creature of the people and is accountable to them. An open and accountable government is the cornerstone of a healthy, vibrant democracy. Since its founding, members of the League of Women Voters have been on the frontlines to promote governmental transparency at the local, state and national levels.

LWV celebrates 94 years
Tomorrow will mark the 94th anniversary of the founding of the League of Women Voters by Carrie Chapman Catt on Feb. 14, 1920. Catt, a leading suffragist and brilliant strategist, devised the "Winning Plan", which led to the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment granting all women in the United States the right to vote.

Tuesday is Conservation Day
Tuesday is Conservation Day at the State House. The League of Women Voters of Indiana is a member of the Indiana Conservation Alliance (INCA) and will have representatives among those in Indianapolis Tuesday to advocate for conservation issues.
