Here is a partial listing of activities going on in the area in the next couple of weeks:

NOV. 26 - Community Thanksgiving Dinner. The Community event will take place at New bethel Church, located at 406 Mill St., in Crawfordsville. A worship service will begin at 11:30 a.m. The meal will begin being served at noon and will run until 4:30 p.m. For more information or to have a meal delivered call 361-9121.

NOV. 26 - The annual Waynetown Community Thanksgiving meal is scheduled to take place at the Waynetown Christian Church. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Life Center at the church. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Take out and deliveries are available. For more information or to schedule a delivery call 234-2554 or 234-2155.

NOV. 28 - Fundraiser for the Southmont Fellowship of Christian Athletes planned at the Crawfordsville Armory. More details will be forthcoming but be sure to mark that day down. You won't want to miss it.

¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö

NOV. 28 - Montgomery basketball die-hards will want to attend a special event scheduled for 6 p.m. at the old Crawfordsville High School gym, now part of the Athena Sports and Fitness Center. Beginning at 6 p.m. a group of five members who played a key role in the 1958 Crawfordsville-Alamo sectional basketball game will talk about that game -C or at least the parts they remember. Representing Alamo on Nov. 28 will be Joe Melvin and Whitey Reath. Representing Crawfordsville will be Mike Walker, Joe Krutzsch and Dick Haslam. In addition, organizers are hoping to have representatives from several other teams. Admission to the event will be free, although a goodwill donation will be accepted. The proceeds will be divided between the Animal Welfare League and the Home for Friendless Animal Shelter.

NOV. 28 - The annual Crawfordsville Downtown Party Night is planned to run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Most of the downtown stores will be open late that night, many will have special going on that day. In addition Santa will be downtown and there will also be carriage rides.

¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö

Jill Curry, Community Liaison for Montgomery County with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) will speak dinner meeting sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Montgomery County Small Community Network to be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 300 W. South Blvd. across from the Pizza Hut. A complimentary box dinner will be provided for all participants at 6:30 p.m. Elected officials from around the county are invited to attend. The Southmont High School gymnastics team will be working at Johnny Provolone's on Monday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The team will receive a portion of profits from the night on dine-in, carry out and deliveries. They are asking for everyone to come eat and support Southmont gymnastics.

DEC. 1 - Walnut Township Community Organization will have a meeting at 6 p.m. for the election of officers and monthly meeting. The meeting will take place at the Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department in New Ross. New members and all current members encouraged to attend.

¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö

Dec. 1 - Former Waveland resident, teacher and principal of Turkey Run, Dr. Larry Williams will be at the Crawfordsville District Public Library for an author's visit and book signing from noon to 3 p.m. His book, Devil's Backbone, is a murder-mystery which leads the investigation to Pine Hills Forest Preserve near the treacherous Devil's Backbone high above Sugar Creek.

¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö

DEC. 3-4 - The annual holiday fundraising event for the Bach Chorale Singers, the Festival of Trees, will be held in the Ballroom of the University Plaza Hotel (formerly University Inn). On Thursday, Dec. 3 open to the public, there will be a silent auction of decorated trees, wreaths, and items of the season from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Caroling with the Bach Chorale Children and Youth Choirs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 4, at 6:15 p.m., there will be a Champagne Reception, followed by Dinner and Dancing, live entertainment, a continuation of the silent auction as well as a live auction conducted by Rob Stephan. Included in the entertainment are caroling with the Bach Chorale Singers and Alumni and serenades by the "Gentlemen of Note". Tickets to the Dinner/Dance are $75 each. DEC. 3-6 - A newly choreographed party scene and an old favorite dancing the role of Herr Drosselmeyer will highlight Butler Ballet's 2009 production of The Nutcracker, at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 3); 8 p.m. Friday (Dec. 4); 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 5) and 2 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 6). Tickets are $21.50-$28.50 for adults; $17-$23 for children, students and seniors; and $14-$20 for groups of 20 or more. This year's Nutcracker, the 27th consecutive annual production by Butler Ballet, will feature retired dance professor Bud Kerwin reprising his role as Drosselmeyer for the first time since 1996.

DEC. 4-5-6 - The 90-plus member Community Christmas Choir, under the direction of Jamie France, announces the 8th Annual Community Christmas Choir concert at the Russellville Community Center. This year's concert is entitled, The Wonder of Christmas. The concert is free. The Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 performance will be at 7 p.m. and the Dec. 6 show will be at 6:30 p.m. Each performance will last approximately one hour. Free nursery and child care services will be available during each performance. A free dinner will be provided by the Russellville Community Center and will be offered one hour prior to each performance. The meals, consisting of a Salisbury steak dinner planned for Friday evening and a chicken `n noodles dinner planned for Saturday evening, will be served starting at 6 p.m. The spaghetti meal planned for Sunday will begin at noon. A free-will offering will be accepted for the meal and all the proceeds will go to benefit the Russellville Community Center.

DEC. 5 - Walnut Township Christmas Light Decorating Contest, sponsored by Walnut Township Community Organization, will take place again this year. There will be cash prizes for first, second and third places. Anyone interested must register by Dec. 5 and their is a $5 registration fee. Registration forms available at the New Ross Post Office & Hoosier Heartland State Bank in New Ross.

¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö ¡ö

DEC. 5 - Tickets for the annual Rockville Home Tour are now on sale at the Art Gallery on the north side of the Square. Those purchasing tickets before Dec. 5 event will save $1 per ticket. Homes on the tour include the Hiland Home in Mecca, the Swaim Home just south of Rockville, the Bloomer Guest House and the Collins Home both in Rockville. The Collins home former owners were John Alden and the Garrisons. The Home Tour is from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Items for the "Sack Raffle" are now on display. Over 20 items are available. Choose from oil paintings, pastels, custom made pottery by local potters, crocheted items, porcelain, wood carvings and so much more! Tickets can be placed in the sack by the item you prefer. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. For more information call the Gallery at (765) 569-9422. Gallery hours are daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

DEC. 6 - Crawfordsville Downtown Christmas Parade. The parade is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. The parade will go down east Main Street and South Washington Street.

DEC. 16 - Beginning at 6 p.m. the Walnut Township Christmas Light Decorating Contest & Christmas Caroling will take place. Christmas Caroling and contest judging will take place at that time. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after caroling. The event starts at, and ends, at the Walnut Township Volunteer Fire Department in New Ross.
