Nominations wanted for awards
The Tippecanoe Arts Federation is seeking nominations for the 2014 Bravo for the Arts and John Corey Awards. Nominators must be current member organizations, artists or contributors of the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.

The Bravo Award is given each year to a business in North Central Indiana that has made a significant contribution to an arts organization or the arts community by making a financial contribution, an in-kind donation, or providing volunteers for the organization.

Marie Canine Plaza repair bids requested
The Marie Canine Plaza was constructed in 2002, funded by a grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF). Crawfordsville Main Street (CMS) has responsibility for maintaining the plaza, funded by a continuing grant from the Marie Canine Trust. The pergola needs extensive refurbishing to replace some of the trim boards that surround the structural elements of the trellis, and repaint the entire structure.

A committee was formed to consider options for the repair, including possible updates to the structure. Three designs were prepared, and public comment was sought.

It's time to dispose of old prescription medicines
On Sept. 27 the Montgomery County Health Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and the Crawfordsville Police Department, as part of the Prescription Drug Taskforce, will be participating in the National Medicine Take Back Program. From the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. citizens will be able to bring all expired and/ or unused prescription medications to the parking lot of the Crawfordsville Police Department for collection.

The collected prescription medication will be weighed, packed, and later transported to another location for disposal.

Bank raises money for cancer patient
Hoosier Heartland State Bank with the help of the Montgomery County community, recently raised $2000 for six-year-old Waynetown youngster Kale Galloway, who is fighting cancer for the second time in his life.

Donations were taken at all six locations and there was a post on HHSB's Facebook page explaining where to donate. The money raised will go toward helping the family with medical bills.

"We would like to send out a huge thank you to this community for the support they showed Kale and his family," stated Brad Monts of HHSB.

'Fiddler' returns to theater
It is the 50th anniversary of the Broadway production of "Fiddler on the Roof," which remains among Broadway's 16 longest-running shows of all time, capturing nine Tony awards. "Fiddler's" universal theme of holding onto one's belief in the midst of a hostile and chaotic environment is still relevant today.

In honor of the special anniversary of such a treasured tale of family tradition, the Vanity Theater is featuring "Fiddler on the Roof" as the opening show of the 2014-2015 season.

Sam's parents need help
The Paper of Montgomery County, in cooperation with the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau, will weekly be bringing its readers stories of Montgomery County children who are currently in need of a mentor through the Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP). This is the fourth story installment. All names and some situational details have been changed to protect the confidentiality of the children.

Athena raises money for Wounded Warrior Project
Middle-age women and a few men were taking their time, walking, by the time they made their second circuit around the block at the Athena Sport & Fitness gym Saturday morning.

They started around the block, jogging, doing a "cadence" while their leader chanted out to them, like a drill sergeant in an old movie.
