Maurer Young Musicians Contest Winners perform with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra March 5

Indiana’s finest young musical talent will be on full display at Hilbert Circle Theatre on Saturday, March 5 for the Michael Ben and Illene Komisarow Maurer Young Musicians Contest Winners Concert. The concert features the 2020 and 2021 Maurer Young Musicians Contest Winners in concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

The Maurer Young Musicians Contest, which is organized by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association, encourages accomplished young Indiana musicians (through grade 12) to set and achieve goals of technical and artistic excellence by providing an opportunity to perform in a competitive setting. ISO resident conductor Jacob Joyce leads the orchestra for this exciting performance.

Featured contest winners will perform alongside the ISO:

  • Cooper Olsen, violin (2021 winner) – Bloomington, IN

Ruslan and Lyudmila Overture – Mikhail Glinka

Poème, Op. 25 – Ernest Chausson

  • Serge Kalinovsky, cello (2020 co-winner) – Bloomington, IN

Cello Concerto No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 30 – Victor Herbert

  • Micah Young, piano (2020 co-winner) – Fishers, IN

Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 30 – Sergei Rachmaninoff
