New Ross Sesquicentennial Celebration Kicked Off

On Sunday July 13, the town of New Ross kicked off its 150th Birthday Celebration at the New Ross Town Hall. New Ross was founded in 1875. In 1975, New Ross held a four-day Centennial Celebration which included the burial of a Memorabilia Time Capsule which was to be opened on July 13, 2025.

On that day a large crowd gathered at the Town Hall to open the Capsule and was welcomed by 150th Celebration Committee Co-chairman Nancy Hartley who spoke about what it was like in 1975 and the Centennial event. Kay Richardson and Ellen Teague were recognized as the only living Centennial Committee members.

Hartley also recognized those who volunteered or help with the 1975 Centennial Celebration and introduced the members of the 150th Celebration Committee. She outlined the planned events for the 150th Birthday Celebration and invited everyone to attend and participate on September 6-7in New Ross.

Events on Sept. 6 will include yard sales, a corn hole tournament, craft vendors, historical displays, a reunion area, a show, a kids Fun Zone, Southmont “Sudden Impulse” choir, Walnut Elementary Color Run, New Ross Conservation Club pie contest, a magician and a parade celebrating “150 Years of Community.” Of course there will be many food options available during the day. The evening will end with “The Backyard Revival Band” followed by music from Steve Trent and Small Town.

Sept. 7 will see a community worship service at the New Ross United Methodist Church. After the service, a light lunch will be served then will come the sealing of the “Sesquicentennial Time Capsule.”

Please join the festivities on Sept. 6-7 to celebrate New Ross’s 150th birthday.
