Baird Back’s Farm Program
No doubt Montgomery County is far more diverse from a work and product standpoint than a few decades ago. But any way you cut it, the county still involves agriculture – and a lot of it. So the recent news about an economic assistance program is being paid close attention to here – as well as the halls of Congress.
Congressman Jim Baird (IN-04) is no different. The military veteran and longtime representative had this to say after news came out about the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program, an economic assistance package for American farmers.
“President Trump and his administration have made it clear that they will put American farmers first. Previously, our farmers and producers were struggling under unfair trade practices and rising input costs as a result of Biden’s inflationary agenda,” Baird said.
“This historic investment will provide much-needed economic relief until farmers can benefit from the upcoming increase in reference prices passed in the Working Families Tax Cuts,” he added.
According to news reports, the $12 billion program will be funded by money raised from U.S. tariffs.
“I was proud to see that one of my constituents, Tyler Everett of Everett Family Farms, joined President Trump, Secretary Rollins, and Secretary Bessent for this historic announcement that will help fix our great ag economy. I thank the president, Secretary Rollins, and Secretary Bessent for their continued efforts to ensure our farmers thrive and to create a more level playing field on the world stage.”
Farmers will be able to apply for money through the program and it is supposed to be distributed by the end of February.
