East Jefferson Fire Quickly Contained

Thanks to quick action by CFD, a serious garage fire was under control in minutes.

Sunday night at approximately 11:30 p.m. the Crawfordsville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of East Jefferson Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached garage heavily involved in fire, with two nearby structures and a vehicle threatened by potential fire spread.

Firefighters conducted an immediate offensive attack and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes of arrival. The fire was successfully contained to the garage, preventing damage to neighboring structures. Some nearby properties did sustain minor to moderate heat damage.

The garage was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. No residents were displaced as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the fire is believed to be unintentional in nature.

Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 12:40 a.m. Assisting agencies included the Crawfordsville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Central Communications Center and Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power.
