| Suspending the Gas TaxHoosier families were already getting squeezed at the grocery store, and now they are feeling it at the gas pump too. That’s why I stood with my Senate colleagues in calling for the governor to temporarily suspend the tax on gas. Now is the time to do everything we can to provide tax relief for Indiana families, and this suspension would make a real difference. Simply put, Hoosier families need this money more than the government does. While I know it won’t fix the affordability challenges facing the country, I have good news to share: We got it done. Shortly after my call to suspend the tax, Gov. Braun announced a 30-day suspension of the state’s 7% sales tax on gas, which will help Hoosiers save money as the cost to fill up remains high. As your state senator, I have voted for lower property taxes, lower income taxes, and most recently supported additional tax relief by ending the state’s income tax on tips and overtime in 2026. Suspending this gas tax is one more relief measure that will allow gas prices to come down so Hoosiers can afford to get to work and live their lives. |
