Gary L. Austin, 63, Mellott, passed from this life at Noon on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021 in his home surrounded by family following a courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born in Crawfordsville, Aug. 15, 1958 to Susie E. (Johnson) Austin, who resides in Crawfordsville, and the late Stanley W. Austin.
Mr. Austin was a 1976 graduate of Fountain Central High School and a member of Mellott Community Bible Church. He married Vickie S. Stonecipher in Mellott on July 22, 1978 and she survives. For 31 years, Mr. Austin was a dedicated fuel delivery driver beginning with Farm Bureau Co-op and continuing with Ceres Solutions until his health failed in January 2019. He was devoted to his customers who he considered as friends. He served multiple generations of farmers, businesses and homeowners. If someone had a fuel need, Mr. Austin would accommodate them. He would often enjoy coffee, lunch or pie at a customer’s dinner table.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the ‘special nurses’ at IU Health Simon Cancer Center; Megan, Caroline and Katie.
In addition to his wife, Vickie and his mother, Susie, survivors include two sons, Jason L. Austin of Mellott and Matt C. (Jamie) Austin of rural Veedersburg; a daughter, Kristen N. (Dillon) Scott of rural Wingate; sister, Marge (Mike) Bowman) of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Marvin ‘Bub’ (Marianne) Austin of Mellott and Jerry (Julie) Austin of Chicago, Ill; three grandchildren, Avery and Gentry Austin and Isabella Scott; his mother-in-law, Alice Stonecipher of Hillsboro also survives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley; and father-in-law, Gordon Stonecipher.
Visitation hours are 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services are at the funeral home 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, with his brother, Pastor Jerry Austin and Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Graveside services/burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
