Anna Meece

Oct. 15, 1957 - Oct. 2, 2021 Anna Marie Meece, rural Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at home with family by her side. She was 63. Born Oct. 15, 1957 in Elwood, Ind., she was the daughter of Louis McRoberts and Mary E. Porter McRoberts.  Mrs. Meece was a 1976 graduate of North Montgomery High School and on Dec. 31, 1976 she married Dan Meece. She was a founding member of the Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Crawfordsville.  She worked at Crawford Industries for 32 years, retiring from there. She enjoyed fishing and camping. Butch says maybe it’s time to come home

By Butch Dale Last month a fellow came to the library to visit with me and see our collection of Darlington town and school memorabilia. He grew up here, and after high school, he attended college and started his career . . . living in a large city most of his life. He now lives alone in a large metropolitan area . . . his wife having passed away some time ago. We had an enjoyable conversation and reminisced about the past. He inquired about the lack of businesses here in town, compared to the time when he was a youngster. The drug store, cafe, barber shop, furniture store, appliance store, pool room and many other "Mom and Pop" businesses that were on Main Street are gone, and the buildings have been converted into apartments for low-income renters. Sports Flashback 1971: Linden wins last County Tourney

In 1971 the small county schools participated in the last Montgomery County Tourney before consolidation. Bragging rights were on the line as Ladoga, New Market, New Ross, Waveland, Waynetown, Coal Creek, Linden and Darlington were determined to claim the last county tourney trophy. Linden, with the county's leading scorer, Daryl Warren, averaging 29 points a game, and Darlington, with the county's second leading scorer, Terry Cain, averaging almost 26 points per game, were considered the favorites. The Bulldogs and Indians had outstanding records and well-balanced teams with considerable talent. Indiana Association of School Principals to host The Indiana Cheer Championship

This Saturday, the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) will host the 2021 Indiana Cheer Championship Varsity Prelims at North Central High School. The Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs, sponsors the Indiana Cheer Championship, a series of competitions exclusively for Indiana school cheerleaders. The competition will feature 56 Varsity cheerleading teams from around the State of Indiana.
