Take time to thank a Veteran. . . .
On this day in 1954, Veteran's Day was declared a national celebration!
Today is a day of recognition and remembrance. It's a day we all take a moment to appreciate and show our gratitude to our veterans for their bravery and commitment to defending our country’s liberty. With the excitement of another long weekend before Thanksgiving, it can be easy to forget why we celebrate Veterans Day. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who died defending our country, Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.
I've had the honor to meet so many of our local Veteran's. I also come from a long line of Veterans. My father is a U.S Army Veteran, my son is a U.S.M.C Veteran and my grandfathers and several uncles served in the Vietnam and Korean wars.
My grandmother had three sons serving in Vietnam at the same time, which was the same war their father had served in several years earlier.
As a mother, I worried and missed my son desperately while he was in active duty. I cannot imagine the mother's who came before me who would have several sons gone at the same time, not knowing where they may be or when they may see them again. I have our veteran's to thank for me not having to experience that kind of fear and uncertainty. So to all of our veteran's, Thank you! Thank you for your service. I suppose there aren't words enough to express the gratitude that so many of us feel for you in our hearts. In short, Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and the example you set for us all.
