Welcome back to Bits’n’Pieces, a weekly look at some of the interesting, funny, comical and sometimes outright weird things that happen in and around Montgomery County. Have something you think should go into Bits? E-mail it to us at bits@thepaper24-7.com, won’t you please?

LET US TAKE this early opportunity to say Happy New Year! Here’s a thought for a resolution: Help all your friends gain 10 pounds. You may not get skinnier, but you’ll look better in comparison!

JUST TO FOLLOW up . . . there was no snow on Christmas so no one got a free subscription. We hear the boss is thinking about doing it again around Valentine’s Day. Wonder if he’s brave enough to do it at Sectional time?

ONCE AGAIN the little paper that could has Indianapolis Home Show tickets and, just like last year, we are giving them away to select readers who send us a selfie showing their smiling face while they hold The Paper (either print or online)! You can send those to selfie@thepaper24-7.com! If we publish yours in one of our editions, you win! But keep watching, because it’s up to you to “catch” yourself and claim your two tickets!

WE DON’T KNOW that Honest Hoosier said this, but it sounds like him: A New Year’s Resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.

CONGRATS TO all the people who are ready to be sworn in for public office on Monday! We know that elected officials usually catch a lot of flak from both their constituents and the media, but let us all take this opportunity to thank them for their service. They don’t get much credit, usually get even less money and do manage to catch most of the blame. Not sure why they do it, but we’re thankful they do.

HEY, WHAT HAPPENED to the guy who stole a calendar? He got 12 months!

THANKS TO the many of you who have sent in the Online Edition subscriptions, and to our Print Edition customers for being so understanding of our decision to only print one day a week in 2019. We have always said that the kindest, nicest people live in Montgomery County and this just proves it!

ASK MAC is back and is already a hit! If you have not met him, MAC stands for Montgomery Answer Connection and he’s got a kudo from Mayor Todd Barton for helping the city correct an outdated traffic issue. If you have a question you want answered about anything in Montgomery County, e-mail askmac@thepaper24-7.com and ask away! MAC isn’t shy and will head straight to the source and then report his answer every Wednesday!

OUR MYSTERY Guest last week was CEL&P bossman and all-around great guy Phil Goode! He was correctly identified by Joyce Brown, Gary Coffenberry, Judi Kleine, Ron and Sandy Carmony, Corvin Pitcock, Gary Bell, Mark Russell, Mary Taylor, Marvin L. Swick, Dawn Frye and John E. Frye. The winner, drawn randomly is Gary Bell! Congrats, Gary! Stop by The Paper any time after the first of the year between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to pick up your winnings!
This week, we have a smiling young lady who’s now a smiling local member of the medical community (yes, the smile might be a hint!). She’s a great community member, having been involved with a lot of local non-profits like the Boys & Girls Club board, the Community Foundation board and the Free Clinic board, just to name a few. She and husband Les have been married for more than 35 years and have a couple of twentysomething children.
Know who it is? E-mail us who it is at bits@thepaper24-7.com or give us a call at (765) 361-0100, ext. 22!
