It was a perfect weekend for NHRA Drag Racing at Lucas Oil Raceway . The cars were fast and quick and the fans were ready for some great action. This was the first race in four months for the NHRA and they will host another race in Indy to kick off the rest of the season. This was one of the first sporting events with fans aloud.
Billy Torrence wasted no time getting his first win of the season in the Top Fuel class over points leader Doug Kalitta. Torrence’s son Steve was the number one qualifier in the class but was beaten by his dad in the third round of racing.
Matt Hagan defeated teammate Tommy Johnson Jr. in the Funny Car final round. Johnson was the top qualifier in the class.
The Pro Stock car class had 24 entries this weekend vying for the 16 top spots and Jason Line came out the victor over Jeg Coughlin Jr. in the final round. Coughlin was able to retain his points lead.
The Pro Stock Bike class had a new winner in Flyin Ryan Oehler. Oehler defeated former Champ Matt Smith for his first Wally.
The NHRA was working with many restrictions this weekend such as crowd size, masks and distancing. They handled it very well and put on a great show. I can’t wait for next week so I can do it all again.
