In the 70’s, it was Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, in the 90’s (on TV) it was Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann and in 2003 it was Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Now a Freaky Friday for a new generation is onstage, in the Montgomery County Premiere Production playing at the Vanity Theater, home of the Sugar Creek Players, starting THIS FRIDAY June 7th at 7:30 p.m.
Under the direction of Staging and Musical director John P. Blair and Choreographer Stefanie Case Deaton, the show is for certain to ring out to its fullest. This team has produced such hits as “Oliver”,”Anything Goes”, “Sweeney Todd” and last summer, with Stefanie as director, Smash Hit Sensation “Grease”
The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, features a book by Bridget Carpenter - the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, "Friday Night Lights" and "Parenthood" - and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey - the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then.
When an overworked mother (Cassidy Bowlin) and her teenage daughter (Alivia Williams) magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. What a great message and joyful celebration Disney’s Freaky Friday, the musical, will bring to all.
Alongside Blair and Deaton, the production is produced to its fullest by Evelyn Kaelin. Linda Kingry, Melanie Baldwin, and Kellie Isbell serve in roles of costumes, props and assistant direction. Heather Olin and Kym Bushong add that pop of color and life through lighting and scenic design. Will Kaelin and Andy Plemons serve as Technical and Sound Directors. Lest not forget Lisa Cosby who has served all season as Sugar Creek Players in house photographer. Thanks to all of these talented people a theater production can happen and LIVE on stage.
The production Friday and Saturday June 7-8 and the following week Thursday through Sunday June 13-16. All Shows at 7:30 p.m. except June 16th matinee at 2:30.
