It wasn't a summer vacation, but Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton is sharing with the community what he did on a trip to Chicago earlier this week.
Barton said he had two objectives, to meet with key leadership at the corporate headquarters of LSC Communications (formerly RR Donnelley & Sons) and to attend the International Manufacturing Technology Show.
“It’s an opportunity to directly communicate the city’s support,” Barton explained about his meeting with LSC. “These relationships help us stay in front of upcoming growth opportunities and any possible issues that may be on the horizon. In many cases local leadership representatives participate in the visit, as was the case of LSC Communications, which demonstrates a strong relationship at the local level.”
He said his visit to the tech show was an eye opener.
“I watched a 3D printer that was larger than my office print an automotive part,” Barton said.
He added that attending the show helped him gain insight into the latest technologies and trends in innovation-based manufacturing.
“Understanding what’s coming in the additive manufacturing world will help us be better prepared when responding to business development leads.”
