This is the fourth in a series of short articles commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Well Baby Clinic.
Dr. Mary Ludwig’s love of children, desire to be of service to others and personal knowledge of growing up without life’s basic necessities created by a perfect fit for her to begin a Well-Baby Clinic in Crawfordsville 50 years ago. The Clinic was just one branch of Christian Nursing Service started by a group of women to address the needs of the homebound elderly and disadvantaged youth in their community. Reverend Charlotte Ho Topp Zachary was instrumental in housing the clinic by volunteering space in her church, The Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 802 Mill Street. The Well-Baby clinic operated solely on donations from the private sector and an all volunteer staff. Due to the hard work of so many caring individuals in this community we now have the Dr. Mary Ludwig Montgomery County Free Clinic located few doors down from the original site at 816 Mill Street continuing to serve the needs of those underinsured youth and adults.
