According to our news gathering partner WTHR, a repairman working to fix a broken down truck was struck and killed on Interstate 74 Wednesday afternoon.
State police say 20-year-old Clinton Simmons of Lebanon was called to repair a tire on a box truck on I-74 near SR 39 in Hendricks County. As Simmons finished the repair and started to put his tools back in his truck, a semi struck the box truck, pushing it into Simmons' vehicle and striking the victim.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the semi driver, identified as Steven Sanchez of Indianapolis, may have fallen asleep before leaving the road and striking the box truck. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Sanchez was flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the box truck was not injured, police said.
