Kids Against Hunger – Waynetown is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. KAH-Waynetown became official in 2008. That year’s totals were 198 volunteers, 81 boxes accounting for 17,496 meals at seven events. Fast forward to 2018 and the organization now has (as of Aug. 1) 589 volunteers and 219 boxes accounting for 47,304 meals.
The Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene in Crawfordsville was able to take 50 boxes of KAH food to Florida for hurricane relief in 2017.
North Montgomery FFA was given a grant to match their sponsorships for their KAH packing event in 2018. This grant matched up to $3,000. Many in the community helped make it a successful night of 100 boxes accounting for 21,600 meals. Those supporters included Crop Production Services, Cargill, Beck’s Hybrids, Bane-Welker, AHW, Ceres Solutions, Land O Lakes and the Southmont FFA.
KAH-Waynetown set up several displays in the community in an effore to continue to get the word out about what their volunteers are doing in the community. KAH was able to distribute 342 boxes accounting for 73,872 meals by 1,141 volunteers in 2017. Many of those meals stayed local, going to organizations that included the Nourish Program, Shalom House in Lebanon, FISH Pantry, Crossroads Food Pantry, Mountie Mission, Veedersburg Church of God, and the Backpack program at Southeast Fountain School.
