The two parts of the Sugar Creek Trail will be connected.

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract with HWC Engineering to connect the trail from the Animal Welfare League parking lot to Schenck Road. Fawn Johnson, the director of Crawfordsville Parks and Recreation, said it is around a half a mile in distance. The project is part of a Federal Highway Administration Grant through the Indiana Department of Transportation. The total cost is $880,000 and the city will pay for $166,000 of that amount.

"We are very lucky to get that money from INDOT to upgrade the trail," Johnson said.

Johnson said the portion of the trail will not be completed until 2017.

In other the business the board:

- approved Martin Madsen's request to set up a small archery range in his back yard. Madsen said that his backyard borders a county field and that they will be shooting out in that direction. The reason for the request is that he plans to teach his children how to shoot a bow and arrow.

-approved Brian Stephenson's request to close Chestnut Street from South Washington Street to Water Street. The reason is for a sewer tap of Casey's General Store. The portion of the road will be closed on May 22, weather permitting.

-approved Stevenson's Ace Hardware's request for an adjustment of $52.65 on a water bill because of a leak.

-approved a contract with Walden Enterprises, LLC for $2,420 to remove two bridges at the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course.
