Cecil Rex Smith, 86, Hillsboro, passed away 10:20 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 30, 2018 at the V.A. Illiana Health Care in Danville, Ill.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 13, 1932 in Mudlick, Ky. the son of James Ader and Ida Mae (Thomas) Smith. He married Barbara JoAn (George) Krug March 25, 1983 in Hillsboro.
Mr. Smith served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, he was stationed in both Korea and Germany. During his lifetime he had worked for area farmers, for many years he drove a bulk truck for propane gas companies, and he had been employed as a maintenance man at Ingress Plastene.
He had taken up golf at the age of 65, in his first three years of golfing he had scored two hole in one’s at Twin Lakes Golf Course; he was a member of the Turkey Run Golf Course. For many years he had raised Beagle rabbit dogs; he enjoyed both raising them and being in the field hunting rabbits with them. He had been a member of the Beagle Club that met in Waynetown for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara JoAn Smith of Hillsboro; two sons, Cecil Wayne Smith of Canton, Ga. and Ronnie Lee (Lila Mae) Williams, Scottsville, Ky.; two daughters, Janet (Gerald) Clawson of Crawfordsville and Belinda (Jack) Shumaker of Hardyville, Ky.; three step-sons, Kurt Krug of Lafayette, Damon (Wanda) Krug of Lebanon and Darrin (Maggie) Krug of West Point, Ind.; two brothers, Eagle (Donna) Smith of Pekin and Randall Smith of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Fivecoat.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Frank Paddock officiating. Burial will follow at Newtown Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects two hour prior to service.
