Denise K. Lighty Dyson, 62, of Crawfordsville, passed away at 4:41 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2019 in Ben Hur Nursing Home, Crawfordsville. She had been battling cancer the past year.
She was born in Crawfordsville, April 17, 1957 daughter of the late Marion and Barbara Linker Lighty.
Mrs. Dyson was raised in Hillsboro and that is where she found her faith. She held the Hillsboro United Methodist Church very near and dear to her heart and a large part of her spiritual journey. Mrs. Dyson was a 1975 graduate of Fountain Central High School. She married Darrell Dyson on July 5, 1975 in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Crawfordsville and he survives. She retired after 26 years of service with Heritage Products in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Dyson had a strong love of her family and rarely missed any activities of her children or grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and involved with ‘Bernie’s Buffet. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy and belonged to a card club.
Survivors in addition to her husband Darrell include two daughters Amanda ‘Mandi’ (Tim) Gerdes of Crawfordsville and Missi (Brandon) Lee of Coatsville; a son Curt (Dana) Dyson of Darlington; 14 grandchildren Taylor, Gage, Marley, Gavin, Ross, Lily, Maci, Isabel, Mayla, Cooper, Mavery, Brogan (deceased), twins: Magnolia and Mosley; and two brothers Barry (Brenda) Lighty of Crawfordsville and Greg (Marlene) Lighty of Veedersburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Brogan Lee.
Rite of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Crawfordsville with Father Christopher Shocklee officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.
