Larry Lee Jacoby, 74, of Crawfordsville, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born in Frankfort on Aug. 23, 1945 to the Kathryn (Walker) and Paul Jacoby.
Mr. Jacoby was the second of their four children. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1964 where he enjoyed football and wrestling.
Mr. Jacoby worked at IBT (Ameritech/SBC/AT&T) for 35 years, retiring in 1999. A local manager knocked on his parent’s door shortly after Mr. Jacoby graduated from high school and wanted to know if he was interested in being a lineman. Mr. Jacoby worked in the Construction department for ten years before going into the installation/repair department. He was always the coworker who would go the extra mile and do it with a sense of pride and determination. One could always count on him in every aspect of life.
After retirement he started his own business, Patchmaker Paving, repairing asphalt in the surrounding communities. Oh, the lessons he taught the young men that worked for him. They are still telling their life learning stories. He retired in 2009 for real to answer 911 calls for children and grandchildren.
He first married Darla Richards. They had a son and a daughter. They divorced in 1993. He married Lucinda Schulthes in May of 1999 and gained two stepchildren. They had 25 years of enjoying his greatest treasures in life, their grandchildren. He always said he should have had his grandchildren first! He loved sharing adventures and restaurants with them. Christmas and Easter gatherings were the best of times. Birthdays had homemade ice cream. He loved a good practical joke and always had a smile. He loved his 1966 Chevelle, his three horses who are now looking for a new home, and his dogs, Sampson and Delilah. He also enjoyed the antique 1936 John Deere. He loved living at this home in Darlington, which he referred to as LalaLand. Mr. Jacoby and Lucy traveled the world together. They visited Washington DC, China, Hawaii, Alaska, Eaton’s Ranch in Wyoming, Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, Ireland, Scotland, England, and Switzerland and many other places. His eyes would light up when a place he had been was on TV.
Mr. Jacoby was a Boy Scout, a past member of the Moose Lodge in Frankfort, AT&T Telephone Pioneers, and Montgomery County Pioneer Association. He helped create and was a member of their scholarship board. He was also a member of the Baptist Church in Frankfort.
Survivors include two children, son Shane (Kim) of Michigantown; and daughter, Cherish (Josh Miller) Batts of Thorntown; wife, Lucinda Schulthes; two step-children, Danielle Hann and Adam Deener; their grandchildren, Sarah (boyfriend, Brad Salka) Jacoby, Hannah Jacoby, Harmon Hann, River Miller, Kinley, Graham and Marshall Deener and Landon and Logan Miller; his three horses; and his dogs, Sampson and Delilah; his beloved older brother, Charlie (Mary) Jacoby of Mulberry; and twin brother and sister, John and Janice Jacoby of Sonoma County, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and I am sure they welcomed their second son with open arms and were so very proud of his life well lived.
A private family viewing was held with cremation to follow. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
Memorial donations can be sent to the MCPA Scholarship Fund in his memory to Peggy Hedrick, 110 Durham Drive, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
