Martha A. Harris of Crawfordsville passed away Friday afternoon at the Ben Hur Home. She was 81.
Born Sept. 24, 1937 in McCullough, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Clarence Lafayette Abney and Minnie Ivy Taylor Abney.
Mrs. Harris was a life-long member of First Assembly of God in Crawfordsville, where she was an active member, helping in the church kitchen. She worked her way up to manager at the Crawfordsville McDonald’s, where she served 15 years and then became manager of health and body aids at Wal-Mart for 15 years. When she was younger, she would crochet, sew and quilt.
She attended school in Arkansas. She married Rolland E. Harris on May 29, 1959 in Lebanon. He passed away Sept. 17, 2002.
Survivors include daughter, Yuvonna Harris of New Ross; son, Dru Harris of Los Angeles, Ca; brother, Junior Abney; three sisters, Joyce Abney, Narcie Lee Abney and Diane Miller.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.
Services will begin at 2 PM, led by Pastor Christopher Cain. Friends and family can pay their respects two hours prior to the time of service Friday, Sept. 6 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
