LINDEN—The North Montgomery boys’ soccer team came out with energy in its home match against Central Catholic on Aug. 18.

Unfortunate for the Chargers, that energy was not able to be sustained as the Knights escaped Linden with a 3-2 victory.

Chargers’ junior forward Corbin Orborne fired the game’s opening salvo with a goal at the 34-minute mark. The Knights responded seven minutes later before Chargers’ senior Mason Adams gave his team a 2-1 lead with 23 minutes to go in the first half. The Knights’ Jake Yeaman tied the game at two a piece when he aimed a header over the smaller Chargers’ defenders.

“I thought that we got beat up by them today.” Head coach Mike Margeson said. “Height doesn’t always determine (plays in the air), you can get position on someone and give them a good challenge and we weren’t doing that.”

Central Catholic towered over a few of North Montgomery’s position players and had the weight advantage against a few of them.

“You have to play aggressive or you’re not going to win very many games.” Margeson said.

North Montgomery drops to 0-1, the Aug. 15 matchup for Covington has been postponed to Sept. 6. The Chargers’ next opponent is South Vermilion on Aug. 20.
