Crawfordsville scored their first goal 1:20 into the game, but North Montgomery scored two second-half goals to beat their county and Conference rivals 2-1 Thursday evening.

“Give Crawfordsville credit, they came out strong and ready to go.” Charger head coach Julie Hodges said. “We came out a little sluggish, and they dominated the first half.”

Sophomore Camryn Swinford found the back of the net at the 38:42 mark of the first half on an assist from Maddie Hudson to give Crawfordsville the early advantage.

“After Tuesday’s game (against Southmont), it was nice to see us rebound and score off a good cross and touch shot.” Crawfordsville head coach Laurie Vellner said. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalize on a few other opportunities.”

That was the Athenians only shot on goal in the first half, while the Chargers had three, but could not find the net.

North came out in the second half and dominated play, keeping the ball on their side of the field for most of the half. They finally broke through with 31:14 remaining on a goal by Marley Dyson with the assist from Katie Lewis to knot it at one.

They kept the pressure coming and Kinsey Humphreys goal with 6:45 remaining, off a nice pass from Caroline McClaskey, was the game winner.

“We definitely found our rhythm in the second half.” Hodges added. “We utilized the sideline much better, and that was the reason we were able to beat their defense.”

Vellner agreed there was quite a bit of pressure on her defense in the second half.

“We were back there quite a bit in the second half, and couldn’t clear the ball.” she said. “We had a communication breakdown, they capitalized, and that’s when they scored their goals.”

Regina Dodds had four saves in net for the Chargers, while Sierra Hutchison had 10 for Crawfordsville.

North Montgomery (5-6-1, 2-4 SAC) will host Faith Christian Monday night for senior night before travelling to Lebanon Wednesday.

Crawfordsville (3-10, 0-5 SAC) will travel to Tri-West Monday, before hosting Western Boone Wednesday for senior night.
