The Southmont Mounties football team will look to gain a win on Homecoming night against Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Danville.

Last week, the Mounties had the opportunity to clinch the Montgomery County title for the second time in three years but ultimately fell short to Crawfordsville.

If Danville’s head coach, Russ Sumner, wanted to show his young football team what it takes to become an elite squad, he found the right team to teach them. Unfortunately the lesson was a painful one at the hands of their cross county rivals.

Defending State champion Tri-West defeated the Warriors here on Friday, 59-13, and held claim to the Helmet Trophy for the third consecutive year.

The Bruins were paced by Junior quarterback, Jake Hill, who completed 12 of 21 passes for 266 yards, and three touchdowns.

“We are pretty happy with the outcome, but obviously we are not satisfied with everything we did tonight,” said Bruins head coach Chris Coll. “[Danville] made it kind of tough on us inside. We missed some assign¬≠ments. But we have some big-play guys, and we were able to get some ‘home runs’ on them.”

Those big plays came in the second quarter with the Bruins already leading 10-0.

Known as "America's Corp," The Troopers Drum & Bugle Corp, of Casper, WY, was Bailey McChesney's, 17, choice from the start. Having only played trumpet for about 18 months, she first auditioned for a spot in December 2013, but it wasn't until December 2014, after a second audition, that she earned her spot for the 2015 Summer Tour.
