Southmont's defenders routinely found themselves watching from behind, in the first half, as the Cascade forwards raced toward a nearly defenseless Mounties' goalkeeper Ryan Stanley.

Crawfordsville dominated the tempo and pace of the game early, and then survived a late Mountie surge, to pull away with a 5-2 victory Thursday night.

Clayton Remley tries to send the ball down the field against North Putnam.

The Mounties sent two in on Thursday but could not salvage a third for the win.

Cole Wemer and Travis Michael both scored goals.

“It was not our best game, but it wasn’t our worst,” Coach Brandon Rash commented. “It seemed like we were content with the tie, and our effort dropped tremendously.”

  • North claims soccer victory
    Monday, August 31, 2015 10:52 PM

    He bent it like Beckham.

Corwyn Hall watched as his ball bent past the goalie’s hands and hit the top right corner of the net.

This goal finalized North’s lead putting them up 3-2.

But, first . . . the beginning of the game.

How to describe the first 30 minutes of the North/South boys’ soccer game last night: chaotic.

Mounties and Chargers alike ran up and down the field as shot after shot either soared past goalies or were stopped dead in its tracks. North came out firing as they had a few potential breaks to start but each time offsides.

  • Blue overtakes red 6-1
    Thursday, August 27, 2015 10:54 PM

Blue took on red Thursday in the first soccer county match-up of the season. The stakes and energy were high as the rivals faced off. Spatterings of commands flew through the air, “Move!” “Middle!”, “Behind you!” The boys dove into an intense match with C’ville coming out on top 6-1.

The Athenians took off from the get go. Wilfredo Cifuentes rocked one in early to lay the base for the game. Kalidou Diaw had a few nice runs on goal with a bicycle kick mixed in until he followed up with a second goal in the last few minutes of the first half.

C’ville switched to more of a defensive game in the last eight minutes but Diaw turned it around with his goal at 3:30.
