TRACK & FIELD: Runners majority of All-County Team

The Paper’s Boys Track & Field All-County Team consists of seven stand-out athletes from Montgomery County. Four Chargers, two Mounties and one Athenian represent their schools.

From North Montgomery, Dalton Surface was a multi-event athlete with top finishes in long jump and the 4X400 relay. His long jump record was 20’10’. He was Montgomery County champion and Sagamore Athletic Conference champion, placing fifth at Sectional to qualify for Regional. He ended with a 13^th finish at Regional.

He also competed in the 4X400 North Montgomery relay with Ben Dugard. They helped the relay to a first place at County, conference and a second place at Sectional to head to Regionals. They finished at 10^th in Regionals.

Dugard placed third in all three dashes and finished third in the 400 meter at Conference. He finished eighth in the 100 meter at Sectional. His personal record for the 100 meter was 11.3.

Hayden Maddox is the third Charger on the team and also went to Regional, for the high jump. He ended with a 5-way tie for eighth place. He jumped to second at Sectional, first at Conference and first at County. He also placed first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 110 hurdles at County. His high jump was a 6’1”.

Jeffrey Miller vaulted to first at County, second at Conference and fourth at Sectional. His pole vault record was 12’6”. He also helped the 4X100 team to first at County.

Southmont’s two State athletes represent their school. Long was The Paper’s Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and finished second at County, first at Conference, first at Sectional, third at Regional and 10^th at State in the 1600 run. He also finished first in the 800 at County and second at Conference.

Justin Lowe ran to first at County in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, placing second in the 100 meter. He finished third in the 200 meter at Conference and first in the 400 meter. He continued to qualify for Regionals (third in the 400 meter) and ended at fifth in the 200 meter. His Regional run was his personal record of 49:41. His State run ended at 27^th due to a pulled hamstring during the race.

Davis Thompson was Crawfordsville’s only representative, winning the 1600 meter run at County, placing third at Sectional and ninth at Regional.
