LAFAYETTE - Crawfordsville took to the road in a rare Thursday-night boys' basketball game. Lafayette Central Catholic handed the Athenians a loss, 62-40.

The teams were fairly even in the first half, with the Knights getting out to a 31-25 lead at the halftime break. The second half told a different story, as the Athenians lost the second half by 16.

Sophomore Devon Guard led Crawfordsville with 12 points. Sam Page and Elliott Stewart each scored six. Tanner Hutson, Konnor Smith and Nick Corbin contributed four apiece and Skylar Daniels and Trent Johnson scored two.

Scoring was hard to come by because of a low shooting percentage for Crawfordsville. As a team, the Athenians shot 17-of-52 (33 percent) from the field. They got to the line just four times, making two.

Conversely, Central Catholic shot 25-of-57 (44 percent) and went to the line 14 times, gathering 10 points.

The Knights out-rebounded the Athenians 38-27. Corbin led Crawfordsville with seven boards. Ryan Barr had six.

Crawfordsville drops to 5-13 and will play an afternoon contest at home Saturday against Class 3A No. 8 Tri-West. The Bruins are 15-3 and 3-1 in the Sagamore Athletic Conference. Crawfordsville is 1-3 in the league.

Junior varsity will kick things off with a 1 p.m. start.
